Our
progress
Our goal is to generate 80% of the energy required for our production sustainably on site using our own facilities by 2030. The advantage: moving away from fossil fuels while simultaneously boosting our economic efficiency.
Each measure brings us one step closer to our goal.
Our path to energy independence: today we already cover two thirds of our electricity needs from renewable sources!
Our progress over the past few years leaves no doubt: we are firmly committed to a sustainable energy future. While only 0.90% of our electricity consumption was covered by green power in 2021 – exclusively through solar at the time – we have been able to significantly increase this figure step by step.
In 2022, we generated 1.03% from renewable sources, again entirely from solar power. The real leap came in 2023. With the commissioning of our fourth solar power system (PV4) and the conversion of our E53 wind turbine to cover on-site electricity demand while feeding surplus energy into the grid, we covered 44.58% of our electricity needs from renewable sources – 11.11% from solar power and 33.47% from wind.
The numbers for 2024 are even more impressive: With our fifth photovoltaic system (PV5) now feeding surplus energy into the grid, renewables now cover 66.42% of our total electricity consumption. Of this, 42.36% comes from solar and 24.06% from wind.
Our progress is a clear sign of just how committed we are to climate action and energy efficiency – and it’s a success story we’re writing together, thanks to the dedication of so many passionate employees.
FAQ – 8030. Future. Now.
Learn more about our mission and efforts in our Frequently Asked Questions section
- What exactly is the "8030. Future. Now." initiative?
We understand the responsibility that energy-intensive industries like ours carry. Those who continue to rely on finite, combustible energy sources have likely missed both the urgency of the moment and the vast potential of an energy transformation towards alternative, sustainable solutions. This isn’t about politics – it’s about facts. By generating our own renewable energy, we reduce our dependence on external suppliers, actively cut operating costs, secure the future of our company and our employees, and open up new areas of business along the way.
- Why is the transformation so important for Schlamann?
Because we recognise that the energy transition – and sustainability goals in general – can’t be achieved by government plans alone. Every company has a responsibility, and we’re ready to shoulder ours. We are doing so with conviction and the confidence that it’s the right path forward.
- What specific goals is Schlamann pursuing with the programme?
On the one hand, we recognise our environmental responsibility – to society and to future generations. But the economic benefits and resulting competitive edge are just as important. This way, we remain an attractive employer and building materials supplier AND make a meaningful contribution to the environment.
- What is Schlamann actually doing?
When it comes to sustainability, we’re not here to watch from the sidelines – we’re getting stuck in. Over the coming years, we’re investing a high six-figure sum in expanding our wind and solar energy capacity. We’re also putting serious effort into energy storage, upgrading our vehicle fleet and electrifying the steam generation process used in production.
